BAE Systems - Global Combat Systems Munitions Limited
The Glascoed site is the head office for Global Combat Systems Munitions and is located in the South East of Wales close to Newport, Gwent. It focuses on the fill, assembly and pack for a range of munitions. It started production in 1940 and the 1,000 acre site has approximately 700 buildings.
The Munitions business design, develop and manufacture a comprehensive range of munitions for both the UK Ministry of Defence and many other countries around the world. Through constant product improvement and our comprehensive research and development programme, we are a world leader.

The Toolbox Talk, Talk Safe and Near Miss Safety Reporting have changed the way employees think about their own safety at work from being reactive to a proactive stance on reporting.
Implementing Lean and Continuous Improvement
The business has adopted lean tools and techniques In all departments to reduce waste and variability. The culture of continuous improvement can be seen in Munitions wide initiatives staffed by multi function teams. Munitions has adopted a common template in each department that measures and improves Safety; Quality; Cost; Delivery and People.
Supply Chain
Over the last 18 months the Munitions Procurement department have transformed the service they deliver to the business from being seen as an administrative function to being strategic and integrated. Through adopting the Category Management process and recruiting high end skill sets the department have saved millions on pounds which go straight to the bottom line.
