Press Release

Successful Best Practice Programme now available across London and the South East

19th March 2007

Companies across London will now be able to benefit from a hugely successful initiative which promotes innovation, best practice and performance improvements within businesses of all sizes.

Manufacturing Insights was launched in September 2006 by the Manufacturing Advisory Service South East. The programme which encourages the sharing and adoption of innovation and best practice, through a programme of company visits, has already helped more than 150 companies in the South East. The London Manufacturing Advisory Service is keen to offer similar opportunities in and around the capital.

David Crowfoot, Head of Operations, said: “The company visit approach to sharing best practice has been recognised for some time as an excellent way to inspire and motivate people. By visiting successful companies, they are able to see first-hand how change has been managed, new processes and practices developed and quality improved, and talk to the people who have been directly involved. We are keen to offer a wide spectrum of support to our businesses and are delighted to be able to add Manufacturing Insights to our range of services.”

The programme works by accredited award-winning ‘host’ companies who are passionate about best practice and keen to share their knowledge and experience with others, inviting managers and leaders of other companies to visit them at their premises.

Topics covered by the hosts include: lean manufacturing; leadership and people development; strategy development and planning; responsible and environmentally-friendly manufacturing; process and quality improvements; supply chain management; sales, marketing and customer care; and innovation and research and development. Visitors select the visits most appropriate to their current challenges and benefit from presentations and discussions, site tours and the networking opportunity.

Host companies are already being selected in London. Visits to Ormiston Wire (25th April 2007) in Twickenham, Sortex (30th May 2007) in North London, and Isuzu Trucks (5th June 2007) in Ware are already available, with more to be announced very soon.

London MAS hope that organisations will find, as those in the South East have, that the few hours spent away from their own business will be very worthwhile. One visitor commented: “Seeing how others do things helps you to benchmark your own company, and to pick up ideas that can be adapted and implemented in your own environment. I found this a very practical way of learning.”

The host companies also benefit from the programme. “We find that our visitors often see our business from a different perspective than our own,” said Lee Lloyd, Sales Director of Spirit Circuits in Hampshire, a host company in the South East. “Feedback received has been very positive, and we welcome the opportunity to meet new people through the visit programme. If, by sharing our own experience, we can help another British company to improve then we are happy to participate in this initiative.”

If your company is a successful London manufacturer, distributor or producer, passionate about best practice and willing to share with others, Manufacturing Insights will be delighted to hear from you to discuss the possibility of your company becoming a host.
