London Fancy Box, suppliers of specialist packaging requirements, will once again be opening their doors, on 15 May, to senior representatives from other manufacturing companies across the region as part of the continuing Best Practice Company Visits Programme launched by the Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS) South East in partnership with Manufacturing Insights.
The London Fancy Box Company in Dover, Kent, is now 110 years old. The company has invested heavily in automated production lines and is well known for its ability to manage complex projects. The management team at London Fancy Box will provide a unique opportunity for manufacturers to find out about world-class manufacturing techniques that are contributing to the continuing success of the company.
With highly seasonal demand London Fancy Box uses a combination of annualised hours, short-term contracts and temporary staff. The company has heavily invested within the automated side of the manufacturing process whilst ensuring the flexibility of skills across the workforce.
Market-focussed teams of 3-4 people undertake London Fancy Box’s sales and marketing, each team specialising in a specific market segment which has allowed the company to be highly responsive to the market and to develop specialised knowledge.
A flexible layout, line balancing, reduced set-up times and the use of lean techniques have all been introduced to ensure the company can respond to continuously fluctuating market demands and achieve their goal of world-class manufacturing. They have also adopted the ‘Theory of Constraints’ model to improve product flow through the facility.
London Fancy Box will cover the following topics:
People development and leadership
Sales, marketing and customer care
Towards world-class manufacturing
